Towards Halving Food Waste Conference

ZeroW presented policy briefs at a high-level international conference together with sister projects from the GD SO Food Working Group

Towards Halving Food Waste Conference

On 17-19 June 2024, ZeroW participated with the sister projects of the Green Deal Support Office (GD SO) in the Towards Halving Food Waste Conference in Veghel, the Netherlands. Food Waste Free United, a Dutch NGO with key partners on the ground, organized the conference.

Food loss and waste innovations, international coalitions and policy perspectives

The high-level conference gathered representatives from business, policy, research, and practice committed to the fight against food waste. Over three days, participants learned about food loss and waste innovations, international coalitions, and policy perspectives on monitoring practices for 2030 and beyond. EU policymakers as well as national governments presented their ambitions for upcoming regulations.

The Netherlands as the hosting country is one of the EU frontrunner countries and has been able to reduce food waste by 30% since 2010. To built on the momentum, three international coalitions were being formed during the conference, among them the Smart Food Technologies coalition, the Upcycled4Food coalition, and the Date Marketing Coalition which aims at educating consumers about the use-by and best before dates.

ZeroW presented its policy needs

ZeroW presented its policy needs with other projects from the GD SO Food Working Group in the policy and legislation exhibition space of the conference. Besides, the ZeroW Liaison Lead spoke in the policy panel of the conference about the role of research in bridging the gap between innovation research and practice.

We thank the conference attendees who visited our exhibition space and expressed interest in the work of the GD SO Food Working Group!
