ZeroW was invited to give two presentations

In the last few weeks, ZeroW participated in two key events to strengthen collaboration opportunities with fellow projects and share expertise as well as challenges and potential solutions.

On June 17th and 18th, the FOLOU and WASTELESS projects hosted a dynamic webinar “Current developments in Food Loss & Waste Reduction” focused on unveiling the most recent developments and fostering a fruitful discussion to pave the way for a sustainable future together.

ZeroW was invited to give two presentations. The ZeroW Policy Lead presented an overview of the most recent developments in FLW reduction at the EU level, highlighting the legislative progress made so far as well as the challenges that lie ahead, and sharing some insights from the recent policy work within ZeroW, such as the identification of vulnerable groups in the just transition.

Additionally, the ZeroW SILL1 Lead highlighted the missing and fragmented FLW data and the inaccurate data collection processes and methods.

The final message focused on the need for a systemic approach to collecting data and an open, data-driven platform for capturing and assessing FLW data throughout the supply chain.

Challenges in stakeholder inclusion in the food sector

On June 25th, ZeroW continued these dissemination and collaborative efforts by participating in the GDSO online workshop "Challenges in stakeholder inclusion in the food sector", jointly organised by the Horizon projects EcoeFISHent, PestNu, and SISTERS.

The workshop was a great opportunity to jointly address the crucial challenge of stakeholder scepticism and draw up recommendations. It featured several “impulse talks”, including by a Commission representative from DG Research & Innovation.

The ZeroW SILL4 Lead presented the challenges for innovation adoption and the development of the Systemic Innovation Readiness Level (SIRL) tool to assess innovation progress in the Living Labs, which received wide appreciation. During the workshop, participants were split in separate breakout sessions (Producers – Retailers & Consumers), where they discussed several specific barriers for stakeholder inclusion and offered potential solutions.

Afterwards, all the insights from the separate discussions were merged together in a final list, which serves as the main outcome of the workshop and will inform the next steps on tackling the issue.

ZeroW remains committed to further collaboration with fellow projects and praises the value of sharing common challenges and the expertise to envision the way forward.
